Anna Hazare: We will keep fighting till Jan Lokpal Bill is passed

IIPM Mumbai Campus

Anna Hazare's fast demanding a strong Lokpal entered the fifth day on Saturday with his team saying they were ready to talk to the government but no such communication channels have been opened.

Hazare came to the podium at around 10am as supporters started pouring in Ramlila Maidan where he launched his protest yesterday after coming out of Tihar Jail.

The 73-year-old anti-corruption crusader alleged the funds in government treasuries were being threatened not by thieves but from those guard it and the country is being threatened by these traitors.

"Why should we fight? The funds in government treasuries are ours. The treasuries are not threatened by thieves but by those who guard it. The country is not betrayed by enemies but by these traitors," the Gandhian said.

He said he has lost three-and-half kg in the last four days. "I feel a little weak. But there is nothing to worry about it. The fight will go on till we get a strong Lokpal," Hazare said in his brief address to the gathering.

His close associates Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia said the team was ready to talk to the government on the issue of Lokpal Bill but no one has approached them.

"We are ready to talk to the government but there is no communication from their side. Where should we go to talk and whom should we talk to?" Kejriwal and Sisodia said.

Hazare had yesterday raised the political stakes by giving a deadline to the government to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill by August 30 failing which he would continue his fast "till my last breath".

"His weight has come down to 67 from 72 kg. His blood pressure is 130/80 and pulse rate 90," close associate Manish Sisodia told reporters.

"Doctors say his health is okay but we are worried," he said.

Activist Kiran Bedi said Anna has not eaten for seven days but no one in the government seemed to be concerned.

In a democracy the differences of opinion are bound to be there and all such differences are indeed strengthen the democratic values than weakening the democracy. The government should accept he proposal of Anna's team for a dialogue and discuss the Lokpal related issue threadbare and arrive to some consensus in the interest of the common people of the country without sacrificing the democratic principles.

Government officials and minsters don't want corruption to be ommitted from the country and therefore they are not in favour of having a strong Lokpal in India.

When the prime minister states that he is for a strong lokpal, I hope a majority of the people believe him. After all he is representing 121 crore people of India. I fail to understand why the civil right activists are in such a hurry?

IT IS RIGHT GOVT IS NOT WASTING TIME ACTUALLY THEY ARE MAKING MORE PEOPLE AGAINST THEM

So much opposition to the Govt indicates that either Govt should accept the Janalokpal bill or resign. Mere dragging this problem means more enemies for the congress and more protest.

Anna Hazare on Sunday warned of "unprecedented revolution" in the country if Lokpal Bill is not passed by August 30 and said the government will have to "either get the bill passed or go."

The team that is forming the strategy to take on Anna Hazare is so confused and incoherent that in spite of Team Anna's few missteps, the UPA government is unable to counter them. Says a senior minister and a leader with political sense, "We are worried about losing the battle for minds."

Supporting the Anna's anti-graft stir, Bipasha Basu says, "Anna needs to be supported to kill the 'Demon' called 'Corruption' that is eating up our Country!". Reacting to Anna's arrest on august 16, hours before his fast, Dia Mirza said, "it's clear the government today has made Anna Hazare a bigger hero than he already was? Condemning the arrest, actor Anupam Kher termed it as the saddest day for Indian Democracy."

Lots of crowds are seen supporting Anna on the media for fighting against the corruption. The root cause of the corruption is poverty whereby a common man is unable to meet his day to day needs, he may be a clerk,a police person or a small business man.The population explosion (1.2 billion people) has lead to a huge poverty in India where there are few resources available to meet the demand of a lot of people. As long as the population is not controlled, thousands of Anna's can start such fight but things are not going to change.

Corruption is like a cancer eating away our progress but who is responsible for it. We ,the people. Now people , gathering around Anna Hazare should do some introspection and tell that in their life time, how many times they are either bribe giver or taker. There is no need of any lagislation. If they resolve, not to take & give bribe, corruption will be eradicated. In developed countries, people are so mature that they never scoope so low to pay or accept bribe
