AMD’s smart. But, don’t underestimate Intel

The authors of Hebrew Bible were not writing about the present day semiconductor IT sector when they penned the “David and Goliath” saga, centuries ago. But, the legend has more than come alive in the 21st century for AMD and Intel. AMD is playing ‘David’ to Intel’s ‘Goliath’ might. AMD’s remarkable rise is reflecting on its revenue and profitability. And it’s time for Intel to rise from its deep slumber of 12 months and smell the fresh coffee. Recently, AMD posted its results for the first quarter of 2006, recording sales of $1.3 billion and a net profit of $185 million. This year’s sales figures are 71% higher than last years. In contrast, Intel’s first quarter results indicated a 38% dip in profits. Indicates anything to you?...
